Let's welcome to the blog Gale Laure!
Why I Write Mystery, Suspense, Romance and Thriller GenreOn the edge is a motto I use when I write. I like everything to be on the edge. From the mystery that is entangled within the pages of my book, to the growing excitement of my suspense, to the tingle of the thriller, I am in control. You, as the reader, are not. I find it delicious.I probably like writing mystery, suspense, romance and thriller books more than you do reading them. While I was writing my debut novel, Evolution of a Sad Woman, all I did was smile. Nothing makes you feel better than a good, deep smile that goes down to the soul.Even the romance in my mystery, thriller, suspense and romance novel is a little on the edge. I attempt to make my relationships complicated. I believe this makes my characters realistic. My characters love deeply and unforgettably. My goal is to mix the challenge of the mind, the emotion of the heart and the edginess of the nerves. As a female author of fiction, I feel I have much emotion to draw upon. I draw emotion from my characters and for my characters. It is as if they feed me, and I feed them. My characters must always feel. They must feel happiness, sadness, terror, fear, anger, love, anxiety, uncertainty, passion and even sometimes boredom. This brings them to life!I love mystery and thrillers. I love suspense genre. I write what I love. And, oh do not forget my love of romance novels.I have often been asked why I included so many genres in my novel. It is really quite simple for me. Life is not just one genre, so why should my book be just one genre. Life is more interesting than just one genre. I want my novels to be like life! I want my books to live! I feel mystery creates suspense. Suspense often generates thrills. I use romance to tie together the mystery, suspense and thriller genres.I try to use my location to evoke feeling within my readers. I chose Houston, Texas. Houston is an expansive town full of the rich, the poor, the desperate, the intelligent, the sad and the happy. The humidity of Houston seems to present a passion all on its own. It is hot, sultry and produces a sticky loving emotion. When you read my book Evolution of a Sad Woman, I hope you are taken into a new world. It is a world I have created for you. It may be good at times, or bad at times. It will be a world you have never visited. I am sharing a piece of myself with you.So enjoy my mystery, suspense, thriller and romance novel, Evolution of a Sad Woman. It is a labor of great love for me.You can be sure that I enjoyed every minute of creating it for you!Gale Laure, a native Texan, is the international selling author of Evolution of a Sad Woman, a mystery, suspense, thriller and romance novel . Good morning, all you bloggers,
I am here to answer all your questions and revel in your comments.
Lets get started . . . .
Your bookcover is facinating. What is its story?
mystery book chic
mystery book chic,
The cover of "Evolution of a Sad Woman" does have a story all its own. Every element on the cover was done on purpose. When you look closely, you will see that the eye looks like a cut-out. What do we cut-out as children - perhaps a paper doll? Could Kizzy have been a paperdoll to the people in her life?
The cartoon look tears and blood were deliberate. What could this mean?
You will find the answers in the sequels to “Evolution of a Sad Woman”.

You say, your mystery novel characters must always feel.
Quote: "They must feel happiness, sadness, terror, fear, anger, love, anxiety, uncertainty, passion and even sometimes boredom. This brings them to life!"
How do you make them "come to life" within your book's pages?
Are your mystery novel characters from your own life experiences and people you have met?
Anonymous,
No. My characters are not from my own life. Some have asked if I am Kizzy. I take the fifth on that one. I will never tell.
I think my characters come to life because I do get inside of each one when I am writing from their viewpoint. An old saying my mother used to say is you never know what another person is going through until you have walked a mile in their shoes. Her point was to not judge others.
Back to your question: I walk a mile in each of my character's shoes. I want to know them inside and out. If I find them fascinating, other readers will also.
I hope I have answered your question.

I read chapter one, "The Saturday Night Murder" and it could be a short murder mystery story by itself.
Why did you start off with a horrific murder? Some readers might get the wrong idea about what your mystery romance novel is really about.
Anonymous,
I started with the murder to get your attention. It seems to have worked.
When the story popped into my head, the murder is what came first.
Know that the following chapters are filled with the love stories of the five men with Kizzy. They have clues in their pasts with her that will help them try to solve her murder. You will get a first hand view at their love.

What do you mean when you say your characters feed you?
mystery inspector,
When I get inside my characters, I actually feel what they feel. If they are sad, I am sad and so on. So they feed me with their emotion. Some days after I write I feel spent. The emotion has been overwhelming. But the spent feeling is a good feeling - a satisfied feeling.
On the other side, I feed them with my emotion. If I am angry about some trivial something one day, I use it to instill that anger in my character.
We feed each other.
Thanks for blogging in, mystery inspector.
